EU Side Events at COP27

The 27th UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) was an opportunity for the EU to advocate for ambitious international climate action. It took place from 6 to 20 November 2022 in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, alongside a series of EU side events. These side events brought together different stakeholders and interest groups to dive into issues more deeply. They created a bridge between EU institutions and the stakeholders and interest groups in Brussels as well as further afield.

For the second consecutive year, VO was tasked with managing and communicating around the EU Side Events in a way that captured this urgency and ambition to make a difference. To capture this ambition, VO created a striking visual identity for the events and developed a social media campaign to encourage attendance. We were also tasked with designing a stand for Sharm el-Sheikh that was in line with the values of the COP27. The overarching message ‘ACT NOW’ was present throughout communications and the stand space.

We coordinated over 126 sessions across 3 studios throughout the two weeks of the conference. Sessions covered biodiversity and nature restoration, energy security and the green transition, sustainable finance, food and water security, and research and innovation.

In total, more than 8000 attendees actively participated in the EU side events at COP27. Participants at EU at COP27 had a positive response to the programme and the stand environment. Overall, the event underlined an ambition and strong commitment to reduce global emissions and limit warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
