The ‘Europe on your doorstep’ Mobile Information Unit was a pilot project conceived to encourage Portuguese citizens to learn about the European Parliament and its mechanics, and to hear directly from MEPs representing their country.
The team behind the campaign believed that the best way to reach citizens is to take a practical approach and welcome them into a dynamic, lively space overflowing with information. The unit was conceived as a moving gallery, which travelled to six Portuguese cities (Vila Real, Viseu, Coimbra, Évora, Braga, Porto, and Portimão), physically bringing the Parliament to people’s doorsteps.
To ensure that the MIU was approachable to people from all walks of life, it was filled with informative panels and visual supports such as maps, photographs, videos, digital and physical games, and informative activities. These activities showed citizens how voting works, introduced MEPs, and showed what the Parliament has already done for Portuguese regions. VO oversaw the development of these activities, the construction of the Unit, and the logistics and transport of the Mobile Unit through across Portugal.
The Europe on Your Doorstep campaign attracted between 1500 and 2000 people in each city. Citizens were particularly interested in the roadshow’s virtual reality experience, the photo booth, and games.
