Bridging the gap between researchers and young people is vital to inspire the next generation of scientists. The annual Science is Wonderful! event aims to do just that.
VO worked alongside Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions to deliver a virtual event where school students could meet and interact with researchers.
The online event was hosted on an event platform prepared by VO Europe and available in 8 languages, while seminars were offered across all of the official EU languages. In addition, an online permanent exhibition, available during and after the event, pooled together extensive multilingual teaching resources including games, lesson plans and other activities.
In addition to preparing the event platform and website, VO managed a wide-reaching social media campaign publicising the event among teachers, as well as managing registration and communication with scientists, speakers and participants. The event was organised on behalf of MCSA Actions, the EU’s flagship funding programme for doctoral training and postdoctoral research.
Science is Wonderful! 2021 brought together 18600 school students from throughout Europe to participate in seminars, workshops, and one-to-one exchanges with researchers over the course of a week.
